“AI-qualified” New training course for data protection officers and coordinators

The field of artificial intelligence is developing rapidly. The topic is also currently coming to the fore at the BvD congresses (see the BvD Autumn Conference and Authorities Day report from page 7 of this issue). With “AI-qualified (BvD)”, the BvD has been offering a training course since the fall that includes a series of seminars on the topic of artificial intelligence in the context of the work of data protection officers. It is suitable for company and official data protection officers and for data protection coordinators to enable them to provide qualified advice to those responsible for AI applications and developments and to monitor processors who use AI. The training is also open to non-BvD members, but members benefit from a significantly reduced membership price.

BvD training consists of a series of seminars that participants put together themselves and complete within a year. Each seminar has a certain number of training points, the AI credit points. Those who can prove that they have a total of at least 24 credit points have successfully completed the course.

The training also distinguishes between compulsory modules and focus topics. Of the 24 credit points, at least 16 must come from the compulsory modules. These include seminars on legal principles and data protection audits of AI applications. The remaining eight credit points can be earned in freely selectable seminars, for example on technical or practice-oriented topics. Eight points generally correspond to a full day of further training.

Those who have collected the 24 training points within twelve months can apply for a certificate and the “AI-qualified (BvD)” seal from the BvD office against payment of an administration fee of 75 euros plus VAT. Graduates can use the seal for their website, brochures and vis-à-vis clients and customers.

The seal remains valid for one year after completion of the training. This is indicated by the year entered on the seal. In order to update the additional designation “AI-qualified”, graduates must acquire eight further training points within one year. Here too, the topic can be freely chosen. Upon successful completion, participants receive an updated logo.
