Clear the stage for all those involved
New system for “Data protection goes to school” opens the way for more lecturers
There is a great need in schools for more knowledge about data protection. And although there are many members of the BvD who want to volunteer in this area, the match between supply and demand is not always perfect. This is why the BvD’s Schools Working Group, which coordinates the work of the “Data protection goes to school” (DSgzS) initiative, has reorganized the lecture system.
Previously, it was mandatory for all those wishing to give a lecture to go through a mentoring system and be approved as a DSgzS lecturer. However, the approvals became more and more of a bottleneck, which has now been abolished without replacement. Anyone who would like to give a DSgzS presentation to a class is cordially invited to do so by the initiative.
At the same time, the training slides have been extensively redesigned and converted to a Creative Commons license. Anyone, regardless of whether they are a BvD member or not, can use the new slides to offer non-commercial training courses. The more good presentations are given at schools, the better for data protection.
The presentations have been visually revised and, above all, their content has been streamlined. At the center of the training course is still a selection page from which you can jump to different topic blocks. There is no obligation to go through all the topics. This makes the presentation suitable for different time slots and individual presentation styles.
The number of topics, which had grown over more than ten years, was reduced and the scope of each topic was shortened to the aspects that are important for pupils.
Films are also part of the presentation, as these make it much easier to exchange ideas with the participants. At the same time, many slides focus on questions for the pupils in order to give the training a workshop character as far as possible. As a further activating element, each topic block is concluded with a quiz question.
As long as the presentation was reserved for official BvD lecturers, it was only accessible via the BvD Cloud.
In future, it will be made available to the public via the BvD website datenschutz-leicht-erklaert.de. For the new presentation, a comprehensive tutorial is also available as a PDF, which explains for each slide which messages are to be conveyed and what you should know about the background.
The slides themselves are available as PowerPoint files and as PDFs with linked films. In terms of content, there is one version for secondary level 1 and one for secondary level 2; a version for elementary school is the next project of the AK Schule.
Colleagues who would like to get involved but would first like to watch a presentation can contact the BvD office. The AK Schule arranges work shadowing for interested parties.
The Schools Working Group would be delighted to hear from colleagues who would like to actively participate in the Working Group to further improve the presentation slides, the website datenschutz-leicht-erklaert.de and training courses for children, young people and possibly again for teachers and parents in the future.
