A management system is a system of rules. In practice, rules are described in guidelines, directives and work instructions and these documents are then communicated to the people involved. These documents are supplemented by records relating to the management system. Those responsible, data protection officers or data protection coordinators do not have to create all guidelines, directives and work instructions on data protection themselves; instead, such a data protection management system (DSMS) can also be purchased ready-made. The documents are provided either as Office files or in the form of a wiki. In some cases, providers of a data protection management system also support the user with software for managing the customised DSMS.
