The BvD: Paving the way to our digital future
The Association of Data Protection Officers Germany (BvD) represents the interests of around 2,000 data protection officers in companies and public agencies as well as consultants from all over Germany. Founded in 1989, it is the oldest professional association in the industry. From our Capital Office in Berlin, we coordinate our commitment to modern and feasible data protection.
Our aim is to raise public awareness of data protection issues and the important role of data protection officers. We cooperate with policymakers, the business sector and supervisory authorities on the continuous improvement of data protection. In doing so, we see ourselves as pathfinders for the digital future. After all, the increasing complexity of our communication society requires a strong professional association for data protection officers.
„Data protection is one of the most important success factors of our time. Whoever protects the data of their customers and partners noticeably gains trust and strengthens their image and brand.“ Thomas Spaeing, Chairman of the Board.
Protecting the interests of data protection officers
Our members consult companies and administrations on how they can integrate the complex requirements for effective data protection into their operational processes. They ensure that personal data is processed in accordance with current laws and regulations.
Our members keep their professional qualifications up to date in internal seminars and training courses on the latest developments and technical questions.
In order to ensure high quality standards in data protection, the BvD has developed the occupational profile of the data protection officer in cooperation with supervisory authorities and data protection experts and continues adapting it to the current challenges in data protection. Data protection officers in the BvD can commit themselves to this occupational profile and thus guarantee quality and security in the performance of their work in companies and authorities.
Furthermore, we support our members with work aids and up-to-date information. In work groups and regional groups, in workshops and regular conferences we offer a permanent exchange with people in politics, business, science and regulatory authorities.
